Job summary

Innovative energy policy will play a critical role in delivering Net Zero, and Ofgem is looking for a Senior Policy Manager to help shape the policies and funding that will bring new technologies from innovation to real-world deployment across Great Britain's energy networks.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity to help deliver the Net Zero transition by supporting the innovators and energy networks developing the solutions that will shape the future of Great Britain's energy system.

You'll play a key role in shaping how energy innovation is supported across Great Britain, influencing future funding frameworks, overseeing existing programmes and helping remove the regulatory barriers that stand between promising innovation and real-world impact.

You'll join a supportive, open and collaborative team that works across the organisation on issues that sit at the heart of Ofgem's priorities. Alongside excellent exposure to senior leaders, you'll have the opportunity to influence nationally important work whilst broadening your expertise across policy, regulation and the future of the energy sector.

Job description

We're looking for someone with strong policy skills, including the ability to identify, analyse and articulate complex problems whilst working with analytical, technical and legal colleagues to develop practical solutions. You'll also bring experience of delivering at pace, some knowledge of the energy sector, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Person specification

  • Policy Skills: identifying, analysing, and articulating complex problems; working with other professionals (for example analytical, technical, and legal) to develop solutions and options, and presenting policy recommendations that consider the trade-offs, risks, and dependencies to aid effective decision making (LEAD)
  • Managing delivery at pace: set clear goals and priorities, supports others to solve problems, overcome challenges, seeking feedback and means of continuous improvement.
  • Energy knowledge: some energy sector knowledge and understanding.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good Stakeholder Management - able to confidently engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Creates inclusive, constructive and collaborative engagement, influencing confidently and ensuring timely, open and meaningful communication.
