Job summary
CPS Thames & Chiltern are delighted to advertise a Casework Admin Manager position.
As a Casework Admin Manager for Thames and Chiltern, you need to be self-motivated and organised to manage the daily workflow on the Operational Team. You work collaboratively with other managers to ensure that tasks are completed as per our Standard Operating Procedures to meet the high-quality casework standards. You also contribute to the delivery of maintaining professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and have line management responsibilities of Casework Assistants.
Regular office attendance is a fundamental aspect of this role, as it enables you to offer direct, on-site support to your team. Therefore, is an expectation as part of the role.
The work is varied and fast paced, offering the opportunity to work across multiple work streams.
The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. If you’re applying for this role and live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you must let us know when accepting this offer as you need permission to work from your home address if hybrid working is part of your role. You must be aged 18 before starting in this role. The start date is expected to be 8-12 weeks after the application deadline.
You must complete and pass your Civil Service tests by 27 August 2026 to be able to complete an application for this role.
As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.
Job description
Your roles and responsibilities:
- Line Manage Casework Assistants
- Allocate administrative duties to the team taking into account the priority of work and the deployment or availability of resources.
- Monitor compliance with systems and processes to ensure that casework and administrative functions are delivered efficiently and effectively by Casework Assistants
- Ensure Performance and Development Review appraisals and Probation reports for Casework Assistants are completed within designated timeframes, in accordance with the Personnel Management Manual.
- Quality Assurance monitoring for the Case Management System (CMS), dealing promptly with any issues arising from these reviews and ensuring cases progress through to finalisation.
- Ensure the effective management of the Unit’s Custody Time Limits (CTL) system.
- In partnership with the Paralegal Business Manager (PBM) and Unit Head/District Crown Prosecutor analyse performance data to ensure effective case progression.
- To use the CPS Case Management System and other IT tools to communicate and conduct CPS business.
- To deal with general correspondence as well as more complex enquires.
- Represent the CPS effectively to outside agencies and the public.

The Crown Prosecution Service has fixed rates for its Executive Officer grade – a developing rate (the starting salary) and a spot rate (the maximum salary). Applicants typically join us on the developing rate and, after completing a 15-month development period, move to the spot rate if your line manager confirms you’re performing the role to a satisfactory standard.
If you’re joining the Crown Prosecution Service on a lateral transfer from another government department, you should contact us about the impact on your salary and the implications of any time you’ve already spent at that grade before applying or accepting an employment offer. Your salary may be adjusted if your location changes when you join us. This adjustment also takes into account any existing allowances that may have previously been consolidated into your basic pay – there’s no guarantee that you can retain these when you transfer.
