About the role
About this job
• Provide comprehensive payroll support across the organisation, including maintained schools and third-party payroll clients, ensuring accurate and compliant processing.
• Review payroll inputs, calculations, reconciliations, reports, and outputs to maintain high levels of accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
• Ensure payroll activities comply with UK legislation, HMRC requirements, statutory obligations, and internal policies and procedures.
• Manage payroll enquiries, complex queries, escalations, and stakeholder requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Liaise effectively with Teachers’ Pensions, NHS Pensions, LPFA, and NEST pension schemes, with an understanding of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
. • Utilise SharePoint and the iTrent Payroll system to process payroll amendments, administer individual payrolls, and produce management and statutory reports.
• Maintain robust payroll controls, process documentation, and standard operating procedures to support consistency, compliance, and service delivery.
• Support internal and external audits, year-end payroll activities, statutory submissions, and payroll governance requirements.
• Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and operational efficiencies to enhance payroll service performance.
• Contribute to the continuous development of payroll procedures and best practices, ensuring a high-quality and customer-focused payroll service.
Special requirements for this post
- Knowledge of iTrent, Sharepoint and Microsoft applications
- Desirable CIPP qualified or similar
About you
• Extensive payroll experience gained within a large and complex Local Government environment.
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, statutory payments, and compliance requirements.
• Proficient in the use of SharePoint and iTrent Payroll for payroll administration, processing, and reporting.
• Highly detail-oriented, with a proven ability to maintain accuracy while handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Capable of working autonomously, prioritising workloads effectively, and meeting multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Methodical and process-focused, with a commitment to identifying and implementing continuous service improvements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
