Job description

The successful candidate will serve as the primary Fire Prevention Safety Practitioner within the Camp Team, reporting directly to the Facilities Manager. Working alongside other team members, they will support the management and maintenance of facilities across Redford Barracks, with a particular focus on Health and Safety and the development of specialist expertise in Fire Safety.

The post holder will be part of a wider Camp Office team comprising a Station Staff Officer, Facilities Manager, iHub Administrator, Range Custodian, Barrack Manager and Bookings Clerk, while also working closely with external contractors to support the effective delivery of facilities management services.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist the Facilities Manager in all matters relating to Health and Safety within Redford Barracks ensuring that all legislation is current and displayed within the camp. Act as Building Fire Focal Point for several buildings within the estate, completing daily, weekly and monthly fire checks, ensuring all building faults are reported, recorded and completed. Escort the Defence Fire Regulator and Fire Officer on inspections as required. Undertake the Defence Extinguisher Maintenance Course (DEMC) to provide full maintenance to Fire Extinguishers within camp. Complete a locally held Building Fire Focal Point Training Course.
  • Under direction from the Facilities Manager and working alongside the Barrack Manager, control the handover/takeover (HOTO) of all accommodation within and around Redford Barracks ensuring that all rooms when occupied are properly inventoried and when vacated are cleaned. Issuing and receipting of keys to accommodation and other facilities as required.
  • Work alongside the Barrack Manager to ensure all contractors onsite are inducted and booked in/out following the correct procedures. Issuing and receipting of keys to contractors, escorting them to relevant building custodian for the job being undertaken.
  • Along with the Barrack Manager conduct basic management and accounting of Redford Barracks stores including bedding, furniture and accommodation stores. Assisting in the distribution of stores to lodger and visiting units, arranging replenishment of items when required.
  • The post holder will be authorised to drive MOD vehicles to access buildings, units and outlying properties across the estate, including locations situated up to 10 miles from Redford Barracks.

Person specification

Essential skills required:
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records and deliver work within agreed timescales.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and regulations, particularly those relating to compliance, health and safety, and facilities management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and liaise confidently with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the use of MS 365 applications.
  • A full UK driving licence is required, as the post holder will be authorised to drive MOD vehicles to access buildings, units and outlying properties across the estate, including locations situated up to 10 miles from Redford Barracks.

A Cat B driving licence is required, as the post holder will be authorised to drive MOD vehicles to access buildings, units and outlying properties across the estate, including locations situated up to 10 miles from Redford Barracks.
