About the role
Our client is seeking a Sustainable Transport Officer to join their Highways & Transport division on a contract basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement schemes and campaigns that promote sustainable transport modes.
- Engage with local businesses and community groups to support sustainable transport initiatives.
- Encourage and support schools to develop and implement School Travel Plans.
- Oversee cyclist training schemes, including the recruitment and development of cycle trainers.
- Identify and address local Road Safety issues and manage the School Crossing Patrol Service.
- Promote alternative vehicle use, manage car clubs and electric vehicle charging points.
- Work closely with Transport for London and other partners to improve local transportation services.
- Support policy development related to Sustainable Transport and respond to relevant consultations.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in promoting and delivering sustainable transport initiatives.
- Experience in transport planning, active travel, and working within the transportation sector.
- Ability to manage small teams and supervise junior staff, including career grade officers and crossing patrol officers.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and on budget.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of sustainable transport policies and best practices.
- Proficiency in using ICT, particularly MS Office, internet, and email systems.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification.
