About the role


Our client is seeking a Sustainable Transport Officer to join their Highways & Transport division on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement schemes and campaigns that promote sustainable transport modes.
  • Engage with local businesses and community groups to support sustainable transport initiatives.
  • Encourage and support schools to develop and implement School Travel Plans.
  • Oversee cyclist training schemes, including the recruitment and development of cycle trainers.
  • Identify and address local Road Safety issues and manage the School Crossing Patrol Service.
  • Promote alternative vehicle use, manage car clubs and electric vehicle charging points.
  • Work closely with Transport for London and other partners to improve local transportation services.
  • Support policy development related to Sustainable Transport and respond to relevant consultations.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in promoting and delivering sustainable transport initiatives.
  • Experience in transport planning, active travel, and working within the transportation sector.
  • Ability to manage small teams and supervise junior staff, including career grade officers and crossing patrol officers.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of sustainable transport policies and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using ICT, particularly MS Office, internet, and email systems.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification.
