Atkins Search have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a reputable, established, leading building contractor based in Derby. This is a full-time, permanent position with a market-leading regional main contractor working on commercial and education projects through the East Midlands.





Client



Out client acts as a regional main contractor offering full turn‑key services in the industrial, commercial, and education sectors. Core services include refurbishment and fitout, soft strip-out and special projects for blue-chip clients across the UK.





Role



As a Senior Estimator, you will be at the forefront of pre-construction efforts, responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates that support competitive tender submissions. Working closely with the Project Delivery teams, you’ll contribute to their success by ensuring estimates reflect realistic costs, risks, and opportunities while aligning with client expectations.





Responsibilities



As a Senior Estimator, your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):



Lead the preparation of tenders and estimates for fit-out projects (commercial, retail, hospitality, healthcare, etc.)
Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications
Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and Bills of Quantities
Conduct detailed quantity take-offs using drawings and specifications
Identify materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor needs
Provide cost-saving alternatives and value engineering proposals
Assess buildability and cost-efficiency of different methods or materials




Person



The suitable candidate will be a confident and detail-oriented professional with a proven track record in construction estimating. Key attributes include:



Extensive experience in estimating within the construction industry, ideally with projects in fitout and refurbishment
Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners
A proactive and collaborative approach, with a focus on delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines
