Are you a passionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant with a background working with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and SEND pupils? Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to support children in a mainstream primary school in Bristol?

Balfor Recruitment is currently seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream Primary School in Bristol. This is a full-time, ongoing opportunity for an experienced Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them reach their full academic, social and emotional potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the classroom teacher, teaching staff and wider pastoral team to support teaching and learning. You will provide both general and targeted support to pupils, working under the direction, guidance and supervision of the classroom teacher.

This role will involve supporting pupils both within the classroom and during targeted interventions, including 1:1 and small-group support.

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities

As a Learning Support Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and additional learning needs.
  • Supporting pupils with their academic, social, emotional and personal development.
  • Working alongside the class teacher to support effective teaching and learning.
  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils within the classroom and during targeted intervention activities.
  • Adapting support and learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage confidence, resilience and engagement.
  • Supporting pupils who may have SEN.
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to implement individual support strategies.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting pupils with emotional regulation.
  • Promoting pupils’ wellbeing, independence and personal development.
  • Monitoring pupil engagement and progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Supporting the implementation of individual education, behaviour and support plans where required.
  • Following school policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour management and child protection.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements

To be considered for this Learning Support Assistant vacancy in Bristol, you will ideally have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification – desirable.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or a related subject – desirable.
  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant – essential.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEND or SEMH needs – essential.
  • Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support within an educational setting.
  • A nurturing, patient and empathetic approach when working with children.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
  • Adaptability and resilience when supporting pupils with a range of individual needs.
  • Excellent communication skills when working with pupils, teachers, families and other professionals.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them achieve their potential.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
