Balfor Education is recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Humanities Teacher to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Derby. About the School
This specialist Alternative Provision supports students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The school provides a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment where pupils receive personalized support to overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.
The Role
As a Humanities Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in a small class environment, supporting students with a range of SEMH needs. Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, you will help pupils build confidence, develop positive behaviors, and re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
As a Humanities Teacher, you will:
- Plan and deliver engaging Humanities lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
- Teach subjects including Humanities, Religious Education (RE), and Health & Social Care where appropriate.
- Support students with SEMH needs using positive behavior management strategies.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Assess and monitor pupil progress, adapting teaching methods to maximize achievement.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, careers, and external professionals.
- Promote resilience, confidence, independence, and personal development alongside academic success.
Requirements
To be considered for this Humanities Teacher position, you will need:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Alternative Provision, or with students with SEMH needs.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
