About the role
Our client, a leading company in the energy sector, is currently seeking a Support Surveyor to join their Land, Planning and External Affairs Department. This is a contract role located across the UK, with a hybrid working arrangement.
The UK has set out its ambition to be net zero by 2050, and the energy industry is responding - together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain. Strategic Infrastructure (SI) is delivering the long-term infrastructure needed to achieve this ambition, and Land Planning and External Affairs (LPEA) within SI is the key enabler to secure the right to build this infrastructure.
The role is to develop and deliver new infrastructure projects. You'll be part of a collaborative, supportive land team providing expert land rights and acquisition services required for new electrical assets for National Grid, in accordance with current legislation and guidance, best practice, and procedure, to ensure National Grid adheres to its licence obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Surveyors and Senior Surveyors with the delivery of all land rights and acquisitions for new infrastructure projects from development to construction
- Assist with access to land, acquisition of land, securing land rights, and negotiation of compensation settlements
- Implement National Grid Land Rights Strategy and other supporting policies and procedures transparently, consistently, and economically
- Assist with project reporting on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract, and financial management regularly
- Share lessons learnt and best practice to drive consistency and deliver continuous improvement
- Good working knowledge of valuation principles, agriculture, and Land Compensation Law
- Organised approach to collating evidence for claims and strong negotiation skills
- Understand wider planning, environmental, and amenity issues in relation to National Grid business
- Excellent communication skills, able to negotiate with people at all levels and handle conflict situations
- Strong negotiation skills with a range of external stakeholders including the public, landowners, commercial establishments, contractors, and developers
Job Requirements:
- Experience in site surveys and surveying
- Understanding of valuation principles, agriculture, and Land Compensation Law
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Organised approach to project and evidence management
- Ability to understand and address wider planning and environmental issues
Qualifications:
- Educated to degree/HND/HNC standard in a relevant discipline
- Preferably working towards professional accreditation
- Land rights surveying qualifications, preferably an Associate Member of the RICS or similar
If you are a driven Support Surveyor with a passion for developing new infrastructure projects and contributing to a greener Britain, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our client's dynamic and talented team.
