Assistant Accountant

W&A is exclusively recruiting an Assistant Accountant for a growing international group, offering the chance to build broad finance experience rather than being limited to one area.  

You’ll gain exposure to month-end, management accounts, payroll, VAT, budgeting, forecasting and multi-currency accounting, with study support towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA.  

The role is based in central Edinburgh with hybrid working, including three days per week in the office, and offers regular exposure to both the Financial Controller and CFO. 

The Opportunity 

This is an ideal next step for someone with a solid transactional finance foundation who wants to move closer to month-end and management accounting. You’ll join a growing finance team, take on a varied remit and build experience across an international, multi-entity environment.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Support month-end management accounts, reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.  

• Complete bank reconciliations, including multi-currency transactions.  

• Assist with UK payroll, supplier payments and payment runs.  

• Support VAT, general ledger accuracy and external audit requirements.  

• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cash forecasting.  

• Work closely with the Finance Controller and CFO on day-to-day finance activity.  

Required Skills & Experience 

• Experience in a finance role, ideally across AP, AR, bank reconciliations, payments or month-end support.  

• Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and a good working knowledge of Excel.  

• Confidence using accounting systems; Xero is preferred, with Sage, QuickBooks or similar also relevant.  

• A proactive, organised approach and willingness to learn.  

• Studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA, or keen to begin a professional qualification.  

Package & Benefits 

• Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 

• Hybrid working – three days per week in central Edinburgh.  

• Study support towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
