The London Borough of Harrow is looking for an experienced Housing Occupational Therapist to join its Housing Service. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in improving the lives of disabled residents by carrying out specialist assessments, recommending housing adaptations, and promoting independence through person-centred practice.
Working within a strengths-based framework, you will assess disabled adults and their carers, design cost-effective adaptation schemes, and provide expert advice to housing colleagues. You will also contribute to housing applications and allocations, assess the suitability of properties, influence the design of new-build homes to meet Lifetime Homes Standards, and undertake complex Carers' Assessments in line with the Care Act 2014.
This is a varied and rewarding role requiring regular travel across the borough to complete home visits, property assessments, and visits to equipment stores. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess disabled residents and carers for major and minor housing adaptations.
- Complete complex Occupational Therapy and Carers' Assessments under the Care Act 2014.
- Design practical and cost-effective adaptation schemes to maximise independence.
- Advise on housing applications, allocations, and property suitability.
- Provide specialist guidance and training to housing colleagues.
- Influence the design of accessible new-build properties in line with Lifetime Homes Standards.
- Prepare high-quality assessment reports and recommendations.
- Deliver and fit low-level equipment where appropriate.
- Manage a complex caseload while maintaining excellent professional standards.
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- HCPC registration.
- Experience completing housing adaptation assessments within a local authority setting.
- Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, housing legislation, and disability adaptations.
- Experience managing complex cases and producing detailed assessment reports.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
