About the role

  • Position: Housing Manager
  • Salary: £45,000 per annum (could be slightly higher depending on experience ) plus very good all round company benefits including private health insurance after successful completion of probationary period, good pension scheme, 30 days holiday plus all bank holidays and Christmas shutdown!
  • Location: Haywards heath, West Sussex
  • Hours: Monday – Thursday 08:00-16:00 and Friday 08:00-15.30, office and site based
  • Role based in Haywards Heath with parking available for all staff on site.

We are very pleased to be working alongside our client on an exclusive agency basis as they seek to recruit a Housing Manager to take over the position from a long term staff member who is soon to retire.

The role – Housing Manager

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing Manager to join a well-established and community-focused organisation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of housing services, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to residents while maintaining compliance with housing regulations and best practice.

This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit an experienced Housing Officer ready to step up or an established Housing Manager looking for a role within a smaller organisation where they can make a real impact.

Company will pay for level 4 housing management qualification if not already held.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Housing Department.
  • Lead on housing applications, assessments, allocations and lettings processes.
  • Prepare and present applications at Lettings & Allocation Committee meetings.
  • Conduct tenancy audits and annual resident visits.
  • Visit new tenants and transfer applicants following tenancy commencement.
  • Provide advice and support to residents, resolving tenancy-related queries and issues.
  • Manage rent arrears and oversee arrears recovery procedures.
  • Lead on Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) case management and tenancy enforcement.
  • Prepare documentation for any court proceedings and attend court hearings where required.
  • Work closely with support agencies and external stakeholders to support residents.
  • Liaise with the Property Services Manager regarding void properties, pre-void inspections and re-letting processes.
  • Maintain accurate housing management records, databases and reporting systems.
  • Complete statutory and regulatory returns
  • Administer annual rent reviews and resident communications.
  • Support wider operational and administrative activities across the organisation

Experience, skills and competencies required:

  • Previous experience within a Housing Association, Registered Provider or social housing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of tenancy management, allocations, rent arrears and ASB management.
  • Experience dealing with vulnerable residents and external support organisations.
  • Good understanding of housing legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience preparing reports and attending formal meetings.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Competent IT skills
  • The confidence to work autonomously and take ownership of a broad housing remit.
