About the role

Pay: £13.00 – £13.80 per hour

Do you have a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

At Specialist SEND Group, we are looking for compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to support learners across a range of educational settings, including mainstream schools, specialist SEND schools, alternative provisions and 1:1 placements.

Whether you are an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant or have transferable experience supporting children or adults with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to learners with a range of SEND, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex needs.
  • Support pupils to access learning by adapting activities and using personalised strategies.
  • Encourage confidence, independence and positive engagement both in and out of the classroom.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with learners to help them achieve their educational, social and emotional goals.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support individual learning plans.
  • Use a range of communication strategies, visual resources and sensory approaches where appropriate.
  • Promote positive behaviour through a calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • Record observations and contribute to monitoring learner progress.
  • Support with personal care where required (depending on the role).

We Are Looking For Individuals Who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEND, or transferable experience from care, support work, youth work or similar roles.
  • Are patient, empathetic and resilient.
  • Can build positive relationships and adapt to individual learner needs.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are proactive, reliable and committed to making a positive difference.
  • Hold a Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Have a genuine passion for helping children and young people thrive.

Essential Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to provide satisfactory references covering the last two years.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
