Fire & Security Service Engineer Manager
Location: East London / Essex
Salary: £55,000 + Company Van
The Opportunity
A leading specialist contractor within the fire and security sector is looking to appoint a Service Engineer Manager to support, develop and lead its team of field-based engineers.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Engineer, Engineering Supervisor or Service Manager who is ready to take on a broader technical leadership role while remaining hands-on.
The position will combine engineer development, technical support, site visits, audits, escalation management and some hands-on engineering work on the tools. The successful candidate will ideally have experience across both fire and security systems, although strong fire alarm specialists will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support and guidance to field-based engineers.
Complete hands-on service, maintenance and fault-finding work when required.
Visit engineers on-site to provide coaching, mentoring and practical assistance.
Support training, development and ongoing competency improvement.
Carry out technical audits and quality assessments.
Evaluate engineers’ technical skills and identify development requirements.
Assist with complex faults and technical queries.
Manage escalated technical issues from engineers, customers and internal teams.
Participate in the backup call log for technical escalations.
Organise and lead regular engineer meetings and technical briefings.
Promote consistent engineering, service and reporting standards.
Provide constructive feedback and support improved performance.
Work closely with the wider management and service teams to enhance delivery.
The Ideal Candidate
Strong experience within the fire and security industry.
Solid technical knowledge of fire alarm systems.
Experience with intruder alarms, CCTV or access control would be advantageous.
Previous experience mentoring, supervising or managing engineers.
Comfortable remaining hands-on and working on the tools when required.
Confident diagnosing faults and providing effective technical solutions.
Experience conducting audits, quality checks or competency assessments.
The confidence to manage escalations and provide constructive challenge.
