About the role
Our client, is currently seeking a Drainage Engineer to join their Drainage and Coastal Defence team in Grimsby. This team plays a crucial role in managing flood risk, with a strong focus on preventing flooding to properties and public highways caused by surface water, land drainage systems, groundwater, and coastal factors. This position is offered on a contract basis, providing an opportunity to make a significant impact through engineering expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, coordinate, and deliver engineering schemes within the Drainage and Coastal Defence team's capital programme
- Assist in the delivery of duties as a Lead Local Flood Authority, managing flood risk from surface water, land drainage systems, and groundwater
- Investigate flooding events where internal flooding of property occurs and prepare Section 19 reports as required by the Flood and Water Management Act
- Lead in responding to flooding or oil pollution incidents, including working in challenging weather conditions and outside typical working hours
- Provide professional engineering expertise to the drainage and coastal defence initiatives
Job Requirements:
- Experience in flood risk management and drainage engineering
- Strong understanding of surface water management, land drainage systems, and groundwater
- Proficiency in preparing detailed engineering schemes and technical reports
- Ability to lead investigations into flooding events and develop mitigation measures
- Experience working in inclement weather and outside normal working hours when necessary
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders and team members
- Relevant engineering qualifications and professional certifications
