Head of Finance

Position – Head of Finance Reporting To – Founder & CEO 1 direct report which may increase Chelmsford (CM2 0PP) £65,000 – £70,000 Working for a 15 million turnover business Benefits Competitive salary, depending on experience 28 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays) Two weeks additional leave in December outside of your annual leave Regular team socials and events Professional working environment Support for continued professional development Regular travel opportunities, both domestic and international, representing the business at events Excellent progression, with a legacy of promoting from within Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (Office-based) The Company and Opportunity You will be working for a global events company, established in 2009, who have become one of the leading providers of intelligence, insight and debate serving the global defence community. Their market leading events are curated and chaired by leading figures from the naval and army community. Due to their success and continued growth, they have tripled their turnover and are now approaching the audit threshold and need to expand their accounting function to meet this challenge head on. They are looking for a commercially driven and relationship focussed Head of Finance to lead the accounts’ function. You will combine your financial expertise with a hands-on approach to support the business growth with financial expertise and commercial decision making. Responsible for managing the day-to-day account’s function, including line management duties in line with the wider business objectives. You’ll be a brand ambassador for the business, conveying a collaborative spirit and have a passion for their mission to be the leading engagement platform for the global armed services landscape. You will have regular travel opportunities, both domestic and international, representing the business at events. They currently operate seven events a year, which they hope to increase with their continued success. Essential Requirements • ACCA / ICAEW qualified. • Experienced in delivering financial updates to internal and external stakeholders. • Detailed knowledge and experience of Xero and Microsoft Office. • Experience of external audit. • Demonstrate experience of internal audit of service and product lines, demonstrating strong technical knowledge regarding internal audits of income, costs, VAT, and bank reconciliations. • Finalise year end accounts. • Experience of conducting month end. • Experienced in undertaking UK VAT reconciliations. • Demonstrate previous experience of implementing system software options, policy and procedure such as payment software/expense policy/financial management software and improvement implementation. • Manage payroll process. • Able to demonstrate knowledge of the Financial Reporting Standard (FRS) to ensure all financial statements are prepared and presented in a true and fair manner appropriate for the business financial position including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy, and compliance. • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). • Ability to lead an accounting function. • Ability to organise and manage time effectively based on the requirements of the business. • Highly competent in the implementation and use of accounting software. • Able to demonstrate previous success of coaching and leading a team, through clear examples of team development and progression, demonstrating leadership qualities. • Team player. • Actively seek and take responsibility for own development. • Adaptable and flexible to different ways of working. • Ownership – Be accountable and willing to go above and beyond. • Resilience – Be adaptable with a growth mindset. Desirable • CIMA Qualified or nearly qualified. • ACA qualified. • Experience of VAT in Europe/EU countries. • Knowledge and use of software options such as DEXT, Fathom, Telleroo, Juro etc. • Ability to attend conferences and events. • Knowledge/Interest of Armed forces & Maritime sector.
