Job Description

Salary range: £Grade £35,520 -£36,585 p.a. plus fantastic benefits
Contract: Permanent 
Hours of work: 14.4hours per week
Location: Croydon

To be part of a small team responsible for delivering an efficient Democratic Services and Committees function, ensuring these areas run smoothly, effectively and support the wider goals of the organisation. There is additionally a general responsibility across the team to support each other within the service as a whole. Position is part-time, 14.4 hours, equivalent to 2 days per week. Service is flexible in terms of days and times, and some working from home is offered, some occasional evening work is however required.

To develop an understanding of the democratic process involved in local government and under the support and direction of the Senior Officer, to:

  • Provide administrative support to the Executive, Committees, Sub-Committees and other officer and councillor groups.
  • Assist the Democratic Service Team with administrative tasks as required.
  • Facilitate the webcasting of Council and Committee meetings.

Grade progression to Grade 7 related to:

  • Gaining relevant experience to support be able to act as representative of the service at meetings of Committees and Sub-Committees.
  • Attending meetings as the representative of the service where Councillors are present.
  • Drafting agendas and minutes of meetings and ensure they are published at the appropriate time and in accordance with relevant statutory deadlines.
  • Becoming confident in advising the Chair of meetings on the running of the meeting and interpretation of local government regulations and the Council’s Procedure Rules.
  • Learning how to monitor and record decisions of Committees and Sub-Committees to ensure they are made correctly and are compliant with local government laws and regulations
