    Environmental Health Officer/Food Safety Officer

    We are recruiting for a Environmental Health Officer/Food Safety Officer to join our Food Safety and Health & Safety Team.

    Role Purpose
    As an Officer with delegated authority and competency, you will be carrying out a programme of proactive and reactive functions which will contribute to ensuring compliance with food hygiene and Health and Safety legislation within the Borough.

    Key Responsibilities
    Using delegated powers and competency to ensure compliance with food hygiene legislation so that the standards of food hygiene are maintained in businesses, for the benefit of residents, visitors and those coming into the Borough for their employment. Environmental Health Officers are required to take on the additional role of formal closures of food businesses and the approval of premises under Assimilated Regulations (EC) 853/2004 once competency is confirmed.

    We are looking for an Environmental Health Practitioner/Food Safety Officer to carry out the full range of duties including:

    - Investigating Service Requests
    - Proactive inspections
    - Sampling
    - Issuing notices and preparing legal proceedings
    - Assisting in the implementation of project work
    - Attendance at outdoor events
    - Supporting other Teams

    This is a unique opportunity, and we are looking for a motivated and dedicated individual to help deliver on our key strategic objectives.

    About You

    The successful candidate must have one or more of the following qualifications:

    • A professional qualification of competence to undertake food hygiene inspections e.g.: Higher National Certificate in Food Inspection
    • Higher level specialist qualification relevant to Food Safety duties. Including, Diploma/Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent food /environmental related diploma or degree course.
    • Qualification to act as an Environmental Health Officer
    • Maintenance and proof of professional requirements regarding Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

    You must also demonstrate:

    • Sound knowledge of legislation, guidance, frameworks relevant to the service.
    • Strong communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse community.

    Candidates who are working towards completing their portfolio will be considered and if successful, will be supported through that process.

    - FSO salary range, depending on qualifications and experience Grade I - £45,852 to £49,155         

    - EHO salary range depending on qualification and experience Grade J - £50,175  to £53,319
