Full Stack / Back End Java Developer - AI

Location: London (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

Contract: 12 Months (PAYE)

Rate: £550 per day PAYE (£66.94 per hour base rate, excluding holiday pay accrual)

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Java Developer, Back End Java Developer, or strong Front End Developer to join a high-performing engineering team on a 12-month PAYE contract based in London.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on enterprise-scale applications, using modern development practices and AI-assisted coding tools to deliver innovative software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain enterprise software applications.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar as part of day-to-day coding, testing and code review.
• Develop RESTful APIs and web services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning and technical discussions.
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve software issues.
• Contribute to code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the software engineering function.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Core Java and Java EE.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, web services and Service-Oriented Architecture.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, Design Patterns and Application Architecture.
• Experience with Spring Boot, JUnit, BDD and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong SQL skills with database design experience.
• Experience working within Unix/Linux environments.
• Front-end development experience using HTML, TypeScript, CSS, with Angular experience highly desirable.
• Good understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrable experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar within a commercial software development environment.
• Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across engineering teams and business stakeholders.

Desirable

• Full Stack development experience.
• Experience working on large-scale enterprise applications.
• Exposure to cloud technologies and modern DevOps practices.
