About the role
The system was originally designed during the early 1980s and comprises high-pressure gas storage, valves, safety devices, gauges, pipe assemblies and a transportable chassis. As the successful Project/Mechanical Engineer, you will work closely with engineering and customer stakeholders to modernise documentation, remove obsolete components and provide technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful Project/Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:
- Carrying out strip and survey investigations, documenting and photographing existing builds and test activities.
- Producing detailed assembly procedures and test procedures.
- Creating and updating maintenance documentation including repair and overhaul procedures and spare parts planning.
- Managing obsolescence activities across materials and processes, standard mechanical components, seals and consumables.
- Recording engineering changes and providing clear technical justification for all documentation updates.
- Assessing product compliance and understanding the impact of obsolescence on existing qualification status.
- Identifying and documenting any qualification or verification testing required.
- Updating FMECA documentation and supporting customer documentation as required.
- Providing project oversight and acting as the primary customer point of contact.
- Maintaining project plans and delivering regular customer progress updates.
- Preparing cost estimates and proposals for future phases of work.
- Previous mechanical engineering and project engineering experience within a regulated engineering environment.
- Experience supporting legacy products, engineering documentation or obsolescence management activities.
- The ability to produce technical procedures and maintenance documentation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies and engineering documentation.
- Experience working directly with customers and managing project progress.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently whilst managing multiple technical activities.
- Current SC Clearance or the ability to successfully obtain SC Clearance.
- Hybrid working with 3–4 days per week on site in Redditch.
- Standard working hours of 8:00am–5:00pm Monday to Thursday (45-minute lunch) and 8:00am–12:00pm Friday.
