About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with high special educational needs in a warm and inclusive primary school setting. This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a crucial part in helping a child access learning, develop confidence and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to provide tailored, consistent and nurturing support.

This would be a full-time role Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a child with high SEN needs throughout the school day
  • Implement personalised strategies to support learning, communication and emotional regulation
  • Assist with classroom activities, 1:1 work and individual interventions
  • Use patience, empathy and consistency to build a trusting relationship with the child
  • Support with behaviour management using positive, proactive approaches
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO and external professionals
  • Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide feedback on progress, challenges and daily achievements

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience supporting children with high‑level SEN needs (ASD, SEMH, communication difficulties, or complex learning needs) within a primary school
  • A calm, nurturing and patient approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • Resilience and adaptability when supporting challenging behaviour or emotional needs
  • A genuine passion for helping children thrive
  • The ability to follow support plans and contribute to ongoing strategies
  • A willingness to learn and take direction from the SENCO and teaching team

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
