About the role
Site Construction Manager - Mechanical & Piping Infrastructure
Sector: Nuclear New Build / Heavy Industrial Infrastructure
Location: Hinkley Site, Somerset (Bridgwater area)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Site-Based, 40 hours per week)
The Opportunity:
We are partnering with a leading Tier 1 mechanical delivery framework partner at Hinkley Point C (HPC) to recruit an experienced Site Construction Manager. This position holds full operational responsibility for the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of large-scale pipework and mechanical installation packages on a major safety-critical energy asset.
Managing a multidisciplinary site team, you will drive the execution of high-integrity spool installation, structural pipe supports, advanced welding, and static mechanical assets. You will bridge the gap between back-office engineering and frontline workface execution, ensuring milestones are achieved in accordance with strict nuclear safety culture expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Delivery & Execution: Oversee the day-to-day installation of complex piping networks, high-spec welding campaigns, and pipe supports. Coordinate frontline supervisors, area leads, and subcontractors to maintain high productivity against the master schedule.
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership: Champion an uncompromising safety culture that aligns with strict principal contractor and regulatory expectations. Lead task-planning sessions, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems, while spearheading daily toolbox talks and site safety walkdowns.
Workface Planning & Constraint Removal: Ensure all workfaces are meticulously prepared prior to deployment. Coordinate the timely availability of structural materials, fabricated spools, access scaffolding, lifting equipment, and technical paperwork to eliminate installation bottlenecks.
Quality Assurance & Traceability: Ensure all mechanical fabrication conforms strictly to project technical specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and formal welding procedures. Oversee weld tracking, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) completion, and progressive system handovers.
Programme & Resource Management: Monitor daily installation progress against target milestones. Implement tactical mitigation plans to counter delays and drive short-term lookahead schedules (4-week and 16-week windows), including the recruitment and onboarding of white-collar and blue-collar personnel.
Stakeholder & Interface Management: Coordinate extensively with internal planning, quality, and commercial departments. Manage physical workface interfaces with adjacent civil and electrical contractors to ensure smooth co-activity execution.
Commercial & Contractual Control: Maintain a strong commercial awareness of project boundaries under the NEC3 contract framework. Proactively identify early warnings, log accurate site resource records (labour hours and equipment utilisation), and supply technical evidence to support variation or compensation events.
What We're Looking For:
Piping Infrastructure Pedigree: Demonstrable experience managing large-scale mechanical, high-pressure piping, or heavy industrial fabrication works on Tier 1 infrastructure developments.
Contractual Acumen: Proven track record of successfully delivering major project packages governed under NEC3 contract structures.
High-Compliance Background: Extensive experience managing site works within highly regulated, safety-critical environments-such as nuclear power generation, conventional power stations, petrochemical facilities, or top-tier COMAH chemical processing assets.
System Handover Expertise: Practical knowledge of supporting progressive mechanical completion, system walkdowns, and commissioning readiness loops.
Qualifications & Certifications:
Higher qualification (Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent vocational training) in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related industrial discipline.
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) qualification.
Valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or recognised equivalent industrial safety card).
