We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.We're seeking a Senior Equipment Process Specialist (Senior, UF6 Systems Specialist) to join our Engineering & Design Authority (E&DA) team at our Capenhurst site. In this highly influential role, you will provide specialist technical leadership across the full lifecycle of UF6 process equipment, supporting Urenco's enrichment, chemical processing, and associated plant systems.As the subject matter expert, you will lead the specification, design, selection, qualification, and ongoing management of critical process equipment, ensuring the highest standards of nuclear safety, regulatory compliance, engineering excellence, and operational performance. Your responsibilities will span equipment design and optimisation, design refresh and requalification programmes, supplier qualification and oversight, design change management, technical documentation, training, and supply chain assurance activities.Working within the Design Engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting capital investment projects, plant modifications, operational troubleshooting, and the development of innovative technologies through R&D initiatives. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Urenco's global sites, you will ensure that UF6 process equipment remains safe, reliable, fit for purpose, and aligned with both current and future business needs.At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. Act as Urenco's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for UF6 process equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, scrubbers, filters, dryers, and associated process systems.Promote a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement through learning-from-experience initiatives.Maintain and develop Engineering Standards, Technical Specifications, and Design Guides.
Engineering & Project Support
Provide specialist input to feasibility studies, option selection, and equipment design activities.Support projects through Basic Design, FEED, Detailed Design, commissioning, and operational handover phases.Review and approve equipment designs, calculations, specifications, and vendor documentation.Provide technical oversight and support during equipment commissioning, performance testing, and start-up activities to ensure safe and successful deployment.
Compliance & Operational Excellence
Ensure compliance with nuclear safety, regulatory, and industry standards (ASME, EN, PED, API).Support supplier qualification, technical bid evaluations, and vendor assessments.Provide expert support for troubleshooting, technical investigations, equipment reliability, and lifecycle optimisation.Contribute to post-implementation reviews and continuous improvement across Urenco sites.
What do you need to thrive in this role?Qualifications
Essential: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.Desirable: Postgraduate qualification or specialist training relevant to the discipline.
Experience & Expertise
Recognised specialist with deep technical knowledge in process equipment and engineering design.Experience delivering equipment design through the full asset lifecycle, including commissioning, operations, troubleshooting, and optimisation.Experience supporting or leading commissioning and start-up activities for process plant equipment and systems.Strong track record of technical investigations and problem-solving.Experience maintaining equipment design intent throughout the asset lifecycle.Ability to provide technical leadership and influence stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.
