About the role
Job summary
The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.
The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.
SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.
Job description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Intelligence Analyst, to manage and develop a high-performing team at the heart of protecting the public, strengthening regulation, and identifying and tackling threats across the private security industry.
As Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will lead, manage and develop a team of Intelligence Researchers and Analysts who are responsible for delivering strategic, tactical and operational intelligence products, identifying and assessing threat and risk along with opportunities to mitigate it through regulatory activity, enforcement action and through partnership working. You will provide expertise in information and intelligence analysis and associated risk assessment, to inform an direct business planning and operational activity at all levels of the organisation. As Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will manage and lead the team in all areas of work, with strong people management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities whilst overseeing the production of high quality intelligence products, using a range of analytical techniques, in a timely manner to directly inform decision making.

Person specification
Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
- The ability to produce, and the practical experience of leading and managing the production, of operational, tactical and strategic analytical products. The ability to lead and manage, and the practical experience of this within an intelligence function.
- Successful completion of a nationally recognised Intelligence Analyst training programme. Ability to demonstrate detailed practical understanding and experience of working with the principles of the National Intelligence Model.
- Experience of working as an Intelligence Analyst in a law enforcement or regulatory regime.
- Ability to demonstrate detailed practical understanding and experience of legislation relating to the control and processing of information particularly the Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulations, the Freedom of Information Act, the Human Rights Act, Common Law Police Disclosure and other relevant legislation relevant to regulatory bodies.
- Experience in developing and managing a high performing team, being held accountable for the delivery of outputs essential to operational daily business.
- Ability to demonstrate experience of building strong, positive working relationships that supports the influencing and negotiating with Senior Key Contacts.
Desirable
- Practical understanding of The Private Security Act 2001.
- Practical understanding of the SIA’s regulatory products.
- Practical knowledge of software including iBase, Analyst Notebook, Microsoft CRM, and Microsoft Office and the use of these systems to facilitate daily activity including, but not limited to, building queries, collating information, producing reports and communicating with others through emails and scheduling meetings.
- Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation (Intelligence Analyst or Senior Analyst roles preferable), or the ability to obtain this accreditation within 18 months of employment.
