Job summary

16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team (16 AA BCT) is the Defence’s Very High Readiness organisation specifically trained to deploy on operations at short notice worldwide.

HQ 16 AA BCT is looking for an outgoing and motivated individual, with strong inter personal skills and an eye for detail, to be part of an innovative and high performing team with a focus on providing outstanding customer service.

Responsible for coordinating and administering the end to end performance appraisal process across the Brigade, this includes managing appraisal reports for approximately 250 personnel, as well as processing and quality assuring reports submitted to senior leaders within the Brigade for review and endorsement. The team provides advice and guidance to managers and staff, ensures compliance with appraisal policies and procedures, monitors reporting deadlines, and maintains accurate personnel records.

Through effective administration and stakeholder engagement, the team enables the timely and accurate delivery of appraisal reporting, supporting workforce management, talent development, and career progression across the organisation.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including senior military and civilian leaders.

Main Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end to end performance appraisal process for personnel and wider Brigade reporting requirements, ensuring all reports are completed accurately, meet organisational standards, and are submitted within prescribed deadlines.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to managers, staff and senior leaders on appraisal policy, procedures, reporting requirements and best practice, acting as the primary point of contact for appraisal related enquiries.
  • Coordinate and quality assure appraisal reporting activity, reviewing reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance, and ensuring submissions are prepared for review and endorsement by senior leaders.
  • Monitor, track and report on appraisal performance and compliance, maintaining accurate personnel records, producing management information, identifying overdue actions, and supporting workforce planning and assurance activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across the Brigade, liaising with military and civilian personnel to resolve issues, improve processes, and ensure the efficient delivery of appraisal and personnel management activities.
  • Lead Staff Officer for the Brigade on State and Honours and Award:
    • Raise timetable for submission into the HQ
    • Undertake accuracy checks on nominations
    • Provide feedback
    • Deliver secretariat duties to the Brigade Assurance Board
    • Ensure nominations are submitted in time

Person specification

Essential Skills Required:
  • Well organised and will possess strong communication skills in both written and verbal form.
  • Able to quickly build good working relationships with a variety of partners, both internal and external to the organisation and be able to provide support to a wide range of people of different backgrounds.
  • Good Information Technology skills, including basic Microsoft Office 365
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to use initiative to prioritise work with minimal direction whilst maintaining an excellent attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Personal experience of delivering Military Officer and/or Soldier appraisal and career management
  • Experience as an Adjutant or Regimental Career Manning Officer, a commander or Officer Commanding, Formation MS Rep, or worked in a
  • Personnel Policy staff role.
