About the role
Job summary
The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.
The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.
SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.
Job description
We want our future team player to have an interest in operational support/back of the house support or already be working in this arena with an interest in taking a next step. We are looking for a team member who will support the directorate in driving forward continuous improvement, effectiveness, and efficiencies, in service delivery, quality, and standards, through comprehensive and efficient administrative support of Inspections and Enforcement directoratePerson specification
What you will be doing:
- Providing administrative support to remote Inspections and Enforcement Directorate including event/ project planning, research work, general enquiries, and day to day co-ordination of correspondence.
- Attending meetings including offsite meetings and the provision of notes and actions and circulation documentation to interested parties.
- Assisting to Criminal Enforcement Team with scheduling all disclosure of prosecution evidence before trial, via the appropriate case management system
- Maintaining, creating, and updating records on a variety of computerised databases and administration systems, including formal sanctions and Section 19 delegated authorities.
- Assisting the intelligence function by supporting the Tactical Tasking & Coordination Group, by arranging meetings, maintaining actions logs and SharePoint folders.
- Administering contact with witnesses in prosecution cases to impart and gather relevant information.
- Diary management. This includes making travel and accommodation arrangements
- Completing other reasonable ad-hoc duties and tasks requested by your manager.
What skills are we looking for?
- Proven ability to develop and maintain efficient administrative processes and experience in quality management.
- Attention to details, strong problem solving and organisational skills.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to deal confidently, assertively, and diplomatically with people at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent time management skills to prioritise urgent issues whilst achieving outcomes to agreed deadlines.
- Experience of working in a busy office environment using a range of information systems. A high level of computer literacy with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to recognise areas of risk within a dynamic operating environment.
