About the role

SEND Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEMH Provision – Sheffield

Provide Education is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive specialist SEND provision in Sheffield, seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a specialist setting supporting children and young people aged 7–16 with SEMH needs. The school offers flexibility, with both full-time and part-time opportunities available for the right candidate.

This school provides specialist education for pupils with EHCP’s whose primary need is SEMH. Many pupils are working at or around age-related expectations academically but require additional support to develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and positive relationships.

The setting prides itself on providing a calm, nurturing, and structured environment where every child feels safe, respected, and understood. Staff work collaboratively to deliver a personalised approach that enables pupils to achieve both academically and personally.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils throughout the school day, helping them to engage positively with learning while promoting independence and emotional wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Adapting learning activities in line with pupils’ EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with children who may have experienced barriers to learning.
  • Supporting emotional regulation using consistent, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop social and emotional skills.
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team to support pupil progress.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Recording observations and providing feedback on pupil progress and wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Applicants should have:

  • Previous experience working within a SEND setting.
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or associated additional needs.
  • A good understanding of EHCPs and the ability to adapt learning to meet individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, flexible, and positive approach to behaviour support.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive daily pay of £100–£120, depending on experience and responsibilities.
  • Flexible full-time or part-time opportunities.
  • A dedicated education consultant to support you throughout your placement.
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.
  • Opportunities to gain long-term and permanent positions within specialist education.
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

If you’re an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for your next rewarding opportunity in Sheffield, we’d love to hear from you.
