About the role

Location: CV5 (Coventry)
Salary: £29,000 – £31,000 per annum
Sleep-in Allowance: £4,000 – £6,000 per year
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Shift Pattern: 48 hours on / 72 hours off

The Opportunity

Joneshouse Recruitment is proud to partner with a growing children’s residential care provider to recruit an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker for a brand-new children’s home in Coventry (CV5).

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a new service from the start, helping to shape a positive and therapeutic culture that supports young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in leading shifts, supporting staff, and delivering high-quality, child-centred care that meets Ofsted Quality Standards and Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

Key Responsibilities

Child-Centred Care

  • Provide safe, consistent, and nurturing care for children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people to support their emotional development

  • Support children in developing independence, emotional regulation, and life skills

  • Promote structure and routines aligned with individual care plans

Leadership & Staff Support

  • Lead shifts effectively and ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures

  • Support and mentor Residential Support Workers during shifts

  • Contribute to staff induction and professional development

  • Act as a positive role model, maintaining high professional standards

  • Engage in training opportunities designed to support progression into future management roles

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Prioritise safeguarding and promote the welfare of all young people in the home

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records including daily logs, incident reports, and care plans

  • Ensure practice aligns with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards

  • Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, and healthcare professionals

Household & Operational Duties

  • Support the day-to-day running of the home, including activity planning, shopping, and budgeting

  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to service improvements

  • Participate in the on-call rota where required

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a children’s residential home, ideally supporting young people with EBD

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, childcare legislation, and Ofsted requirements

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills

  • Ability to lead shifts and support team members

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Ability to work flexible shifts including sleep-ins

Desirable

  • Previous experience working as a Senior Residential Support Worker

  • Experience mentoring or supervising staff

  • Working towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare

  • Understanding of trauma-informed care
