About the role

Location: Coggeshall
Salary: £24,800 – £33,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Reporting To: Deputy Head Teacher

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Tutor to join our specialist independent school in Coggeshall, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Our school works with young people who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) designed around the outcomes and goals identified within each pupil’s EHCP.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering personalised learning and creating a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that enables pupils to make progress both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver adapted lessons to meet the individual needs of pupils

  • Use a range of strategies to engage pupils and support learning across the curriculum

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching approaches where necessary

  • Use assessment data to set aspirational targets and challenging learning activities

Behaviour & Wellbeing Support

  • Support behaviour management using calm, relational, and therapeutic approaches

  • Promote a positive learning environment that supports emotional regulation and wellbeing

  • Monitor pupil wellbeing and report safeguarding concerns where necessary

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the SENCO, therapists, social workers, and families to support pupil development

  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, attainment, and assessments in line with the school’s reporting systems

  • Contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and wider support strategies for pupils

Requirements

Qualifications

  • GCSE or Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (desirable)

Experience

  • Experience working with pupils with SEN, SEMH, or ASD is desirable

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to support pupils with emotional and behavioural challenges

  • Commitment to creating a safe, nurturing learning environment

  • Flexible, patient, and proactive approach to supporting pupils’ development
