About the role

Secondary Cover Supervisor - Ipswich & Surrounding Areas

Are you looking to build valuable classroom experience, step into secondary education, or secure a flexible role that fits around your life? Whether you are seeking the total control and variety of day-to-day cover, or looking for the stability and consistency of a long-term placement, we have excellent opportunities tailored to your availability.

We are currently partnering with a prominent network of secondary schools, academies and high schools in Ipswich and across the wider Suffolk area. We are experiencing high demand for confident, adaptable Cover Supervisors to oversee classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 during teacher absences.

This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring secondary teachers, sports coaches, youth workers, or experienced classroom support staff who possess strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to manage a classroom environment effectively.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Take full command of your weekly schedule. Pick and choose the days you work to fit around your studies, family life, or other projects. It is a fantastic way to gain broad experience across different secondary schools and subject departments without any responsibility for lesson planning or marking.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: If you prefer routine and consistency, we offer fixed-term placements spanning a term or a full academic year. This is the perfect way to become an integral part of a school community, build strong rapport with students, and develop robust classroom management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise prepared cover lessons across various subject areas, ensuring students remain focused, on-task, and working productively.

  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively using the school's established behaviour policies and reward systems.

  • Create a safe, positive, and purposeful learning environment where students feel supported.

  • Assist students with any general questions regarding the set work and keep them engaged throughout the period.

  • Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and pass on clear notes/feedback to the regular class teacher.

What We Look For:
  • Prior experience working with young people or teenagers (e.g., in schools, youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, or care settings).

  • Strong presence, confidence, and natural classroom management abilities.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

  • A proactive, adaptable attitude with the ability to build quick rapport with secondary pupils.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive rates of pay, processed weekly and reflective of your experience.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep knowledge of the secondary education sector in Ipswich and Suffolk.

  • Complete flexibility to set and update your availability on your terms.

  • Invaluable classroom management experience for those looking to apply for teacher training (PGCE/SCITT) in the future.
