About the role

Sullivan Brown Recruiting is delighted to be partnering with a growing client to recruit an experienced HR Advisor. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and expanding business in a standalone HR role, where you’ll have the autonomy to shape and develop the people function while supporting the organisation through its next phase of growth.

As the business’s dedicated HR professional, you will deliver proactive, high-quality HR support across a diverse workforce, including remote, field-based and site-based employees. You’ll play a key role in creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture, ensuring employees feel supported, engaged and connected, regardless of where they work.

Acting as the trusted advisor to managers and employees, you’ll provide practical guidance on employee relations, HR policies, wellbeing and employment legislation while driving best practice across the employee lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact by building robust HR processes and supporting a growing business with a people-first approach.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & HR Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for managers and employees, providing advice on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
  • Manage employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management and performance issues.
  • Provide practical guidance to managers to ensure consistent and legally compliant decision-making.

Employee Engagement & Wellbeing

  • Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive workplace culture.
  • Champion employee wellbeing initiatives across both office-based and remote teams.
  • Help ensure all employees feel engaged, valued and connected to the wider organisation.

Learning, Development & Performance

  • Support managers with performance reviews, development plans and succession planning.
  • Coordinate learning and development activities to enhance employee skills and career progression.
  • Identify training needs across the business and support continuous professional development.

HR Compliance & Policy

  • Ensure HR policies and procedures remain up to date and are consistently applied.
  • Maintain compliance with UK employment legislation, GDPR and HR best practice.
  • Review and develop HR processes as the business continues to grow.

HR Systems & Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems.
  • Produce HR reports and workforce data to support business decisions.
  • Assist with recruitment, candidate screening, interviews and onboarding activities when required.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working autonomously and building strong relationships across a business. You’ll be comfortable operating as the sole HR specialist, balancing strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to day-to-day HR activities.

You will have:

  • CIPD Level 5 in Human Resource Management (or equivalent), or be working towards it.
  • Previous experience as an HR Advisor, People Advisor, HR Business Partner or similar generalist HR role.
  • Experience working in a standalone HR position or the confidence to step into one.
  • A strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing a broad range of employee relations cases.
  • Confidence supporting both office-based and remote or field-based employees.
  • Experience using HR systems and maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, approachable and solution-focused attitude.

Experience or qualifications in employee wellbeing or Mental Health First Aid would be advantageous but are not essential.

Key Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in:

  • Delivering generalist HR support across diverse workforces.
  • Managing disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance management processes.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Developing and implementing HR policies and processes in line with employment legislation.
  • Delivering wellbeing initiatives and employee engagement activities.
  • Supporting performance management, appraisals and development planning.
  • Maintaining HR records and producing meaningful HR reporting.
  • Working closely with managers and senior leaders to support organisational growth and business objectives.

What’s on Offer

This is a fantastic opportunity for an HR professional looking to take ownership of a standalone HR function within a growing business. You’ll have the autonomy to influence culture, develop HR practices, support business growth and become a trusted member of the leadership team.

If you’re looking for a varied and rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.
