About the role

Job summary

The National Ultimus Haeres Unit (NUHU) is a specialist national team within COPFS that investigates estates where someone has died without known or traceable heirs. This unique service plays an important role in identifying relatives and estate assets to support the lawful administration of estates across Scotland.

As an Investigations Manager, you will lead and support a team of investigators, oversee complex and sensitive enquiries, and help ensure a high-quality service is delivered consistently. This is an excellent opportunity to combine people leadership, operational management and investigative oversight within a specialist area of public service.

Job description

As Investigations Manager, you will provide day-to-day operational leadership to a team of investigators, ensuring enquiries are
progressed effectively, consistently and in line with legal, organisational and service standards. You will oversee a varied caseload,
support and develop staff, monitor quality and performance, manage risk and contribute to continuous improvement across the
service. Due to the specialist nature of the unit, you will also undertake investigative activity where required to support operational
delivery.

This is an opportunity to lead within a unique national service, balancing people management, operational decision-making and
investigative oversight while helping deliver an important public service across Scotland.

Person specification

We are looking for an experienced and motivated people manager who can provide effective operational leadership within a
specialist investigative environment.
You will be comfortable making decisions, managing competing priorities and supporting staff to deliver a high-quality service. You
will be able to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrate sound judgement in complex situations
and contribute positively to service improvement and change.

A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, alongside a commitment to supporting others and achieving results, will be
essential to success in this role.

Experience within investigative, regulatory, legal or other casework-focused environments, particularly those involving sensitive or
complex circumstances, would be advantageous. Experience of people tracing, genealogical research or deceased estate
administration may also be beneficial but is not essential.

A full UK driving licence would be beneficial, as the role may occasionally require travel to support investigations and attend
residential properties connected to deceased estate enquiries.
