About the role
Job summary
The purpose of the Skill Zone 4 Electrical position is two-fold. Firstly, they will undertake the responsibility as an Authorised Persons (Electrical) for the JSSU (Cyp) estate. Secondly, they are to coordinate and deliver electrical engineering tasks as directed by High Secure Works (HSW) management team. This will include delivery of Pre Planned Maintenance (PPM), Requests For Repair (RFR) and Minor New Works (MNW) to ensure the infrastructure within High Secure areas is maintained in accordance with legislation, policy and best practice.
This role is advertised at 37 hours per week, the post is specially recruited for overseas and all eligible living allowances will be paid for the first 5 years. Other role related eligible allowances continue as long as permitted.
This is an established MOD post within Cyprus, and any Cypriot nationals (including dual nationals) will not be eligible to apply as a UKBC (UK British Civil Servant).
Job description
Complete PPM, RFR and MNW tasks within allocated deadlines.
Produce and review Risk Assessments (RA) and Method Statements (MS) for the works to be carried out. Update logbooks, test certificates, drawings and schematics for electrical infrastructure, fire alarm and building management systems.
Manage delivery of work packages communicating resources required and provide updates on progress completion.
Take appointment as an Electrical Authorised Person (AP Elec) for LV and HV systems across the JSSU (Cyp) estate in line with the requirements of JSP 375.
Provide AP Elec on call duty cover in conjunction with all other APs.
Allocate PPM, RFR and MNW tasks to Skill Zone 3 Civil Servants and Royal Engineer technicians according to their relevant skillsets and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the correct standard.
Mentor Junior technicians to become appointed as skilled workers and assure their work as required.
Remain flexible to deliver maintenance tasks at other site locations such as Troodos, Episkopi, Akrotiri and Dhekelia where required.

Person specification
- Safety Leadership & Compliance: Deep understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS 7671 (18th Edition). Experience in producing, reviewing, and authorising safety documentation.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Ability to interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and design data to troubleshoot, diagnose, and rectify electrical faults efficiently.
- Safety Risk Management: Ability to manage electrical risks, including producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), and overseeing high-voltage or low-voltage (HV/LV) systems safely.
- Communication & Teamwork: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with technical staff, contractors, and non-technical clients. Ability to supervise and instruct technicians.
- Attention to Detail & Accuracy: High levels of accuracy in technical documentation, reporting, and inspecting electrical installations to ensure they meet standards.
- Adaptability: The ability to stay updated with new technologies and regulations in the engineering field.
