About the role

Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity working in a fast-paced Estates management environment? Working in this role you will oversee a range of Estates related activities which includes both hard and soft audit reviews and assurance inspections collaborating with a range of stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring that statutory maintenance is completed in line with regulations through proactive monitoring of service partner performance ensuring high standards are maintained while identifying risks and driving continuous improvement.

Do you have experience in operating Security systems and have a background in incident management? This role will involve you managing access control systems and supporting emergency preparedness and business resilience activities.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure and effective working environment at DVLA Birmingham. You will oversee workplace assurance, security and compliance activities, working closely with internal stakeholders and service providers to ensure services meet required standards. The role supports accommodation planning, incident management and business resilience, helping to safeguard operational continuity while delivering high-quality workplace services that enable colleagues to work safely and effectively.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  1. Operation of security access control systems ensuring accurate permissions are assigned for all staff, contractors and visitors to the DVLA area.
  2. Monitor and assess compliance with health and safety legislation, security policies, and statutory requirements, identifying risks and areas for improvement.
  3. Conduct audits, inspections, and assurance activities, analysing findings and translating them into clear, actionable recommendations.
  4. Oversee and evaluate landlord and third-party service delivery, influencing outcomes to ensure services meet organisational standards and contractual expectations.
  5. Identify, assess, and manage risks to safety, compliance, and operational continuity, ensuring appropriate mitigation actions are implemented.
  6. Respond to incidents and emerging issues, making timely, risk-based decisions and coordinating appropriate actions where required.
  7. Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, landlords, and service providers to support collaborative working and continuous improvement.
  8. Support emergency preparedness and business resilience activities, ensuring plans, processes, and responses are effective, communicated and up to date.

Person specification

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Experience of working in facility management.
  • Experience of monitoring and assuring compliance with health and safety legislation within a workplace environment.
  • Experience of carrying out audits and assurance activities, using findings to drive improvements.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with stakeholders and service providers to deliver effective workplace services and customer-focused outcomes.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.

This role is not suitable for hybrid working and will require the successful candidate to work solely from their designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, from other offices/work locations/visiting stakeholders.

Occasional travel to the Swansea office will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
