The Stores and Logistics team plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of key Agency services by ensuring the timely, secure and efficient movement, storage and distribution of materials across multiple operational locations. Working at the heart of business operations, the team collaborates with a wide range of internal and external partners to maintain high standards of service, compliance and operational performance. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, safety, quality and customer service, the team provides expert support to operational and project activities while ensuring resources, equipment and processes are managed effectively. Job description
As the Stores and Logistics Manager, you will lead the delivery of a safe, efficient and customer-focused stores and logistics service across multiple DVLA sites. You will be responsible for managing operational performance, stock integrity, supplier and contract relationships, compliance and health and safety standards, while leading a team to achieve business objectives. The role also involves driving continuous improvement, managing risks and providing expert advice to support operational and project delivery across the Agency.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- Ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective stores and logistics function across all DVLA sites that meets or exceeds business and stakeholder needs, in accordance with industry best practice.
- Lead and manage the team by providing advice and guidance to support the achievement of Agency targets against the Business plan.
- Ensure the integrity of both secure and non-secure stock in accordance with Agency policies and procedures, for storage, distribution and stock transfer.
- Liaise and co-ordinate supplier’s delivery schedules to ensure efficient and effective use of resources, storage space and time management.
- Undertake regular contract management and contract owner functions in line with Contract Management Excellence Programme / Contract Management Plan.
- Ensure record keeping is up to date for all mechanical handling equipment, machinery and other work equipment provided by the Agency to facilitate the operation whilst complying with H&S requirements.
- Responsible for identifying, evaluating, managing and monitoring: - Systems, Quality, Issues, and Risks, escalating where appropriate to the relevant stakeholder to be resolved.
- Monitor and take appropriate action for accidents, near misses, damage or faults to any vehicle or equipment and liaise with internal stakeholders such as Estates Management Group and Health & Safety.

Person specification
If successful, you will be required to undertake training in order to obtain a Licensed Forklift Truck Operator to RTITB standard, and hold a full UK driving licence.
You will be required to provide evidence that you hold any essential qualifications/licenses at some point during the recruitment process. If you cannot provide evidence, your application will be withdrawn.
Required experience:
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Experience of managing stores, warehousing, logistics or supply chain operations, including stock control, distribution activities and the delivery of efficient, customer-focused services.
- Experience of leading and developing teams, providing clear direction, guidance and performance management to achieve operational and organisational objectives.
- Experience of managing supplier and contract performance, including coordinating service delivery, monitoring standards, driving continuous improvement and contract management.
- Experience of ensuring compliance within an operational environment, including health and safety, risk management, incident investigation, audit activities and the use of performance data to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week over 5 days.
This role is not suitable for hybrid working and will require the successful candidate to work solely from their designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, from other offices/work locations/visiting stakeholders.
