About the role
At King's Academy Gomer, our site is more than just a place to work - it's a welcoming, supportive community where every member of staff plays an important role in helping our children thrive.
We are incredibly proud of our School. Our pupils are polite, respectful and proud of their school, something recognised through our Ofsted inspection. Just as importantly, our staff enjoy coming to work each day because of the strong team spirit, positive culture and shared commitment to providing the very best environment for our children.
We are now looking for a dedicated Site Assistant to join our friendly Estates Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in maintaining high standards and wants to be part of a school community where their contribution is genuinely valued.
About the RoleNo two days are the same in this varied and rewarding position. You'll help ensure our school buildings and grounds remain safe, secure and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.
You will be supported by a network of experienced Estates colleagues across the KGA Hampshire schools, who are available to provide guidance and assistance whenever required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Opening and securing the school site, acting as a trusted key holder.
- Carrying out a range of general maintenance and repairs including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and minor building works.
- Ensuring the site is kept clean and safe, including proactive litter collection and bin emptying and ensuring the sound upkeep of our school grounds.
- Completing routine health and safety checks including fire safety equipment and water hygiene (Legionella)
- Setting up rooms and outdoor spaces for school events, performances and community activities.
- Receiving and moving deliveries safely around the site.
- Supporting contractors working on site and helping ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met.
- Taking pride in creating an environment where children can learn safely every day.
Monday to Friday | 6:00 am - 2:00 pm (includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break).

You'll be someone who:
- Is reliable, trustworthy and takes pride in their work.
- Has a positive attitude and enjoys helping others.
- Can work independently while also being a supportive team player.
- Is organised, proactive and able to prioritise tasks.
- Remains calm under pressure and responds well to unexpected situations.
- Has good communication skills and a friendly approach when interacting with staff, pupils, parents and contractors.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Experience of general building maintenance, caretaking or a similar practical role.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, decorating or DIY repairs.
- Good physical fitness, as the role involves lifting, manual handling and working across the school site.
- Basic IT skills to complete online compliance records and documentation.
- A willingness to learn new skills through training and development opportunities.
When you join us, you'll become part of a welcoming and supportive team that genuinely values every member of staff.
We offer:
- A friendly, inclusive and supportive working environment.
- Comprehensive Health & Safety and role-specific training.
- Opportunities to develop new maintenance and estates skills.
- Free onsite parking.
- Free access to the King's Group Academies gym facilities.
- Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

- The opportunity to make a real difference every single day within a thriving school community.
