About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Manual Machinist to join our expanding workshop team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering professional with extensive hands-on machining experience and a strong commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Working within a busy engineering environment, you will be responsible for the manufacture, refurbishment and repair of components to precise specifications while supporting production objectives and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, boring machines and associated workshop equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation to determine machining methods and processes.
- Manufacture, refurbish and repair components to exact tolerances and quality standards.
- Carry out inspection and measurement activities using a range of precision measuring instruments.
- Perform fault finding, diagnosis and reverse engineering activities where required.
- Assist in the development of workshop tooling, fixtures and machining solutions.
- Collaborate with supervisors and management to achieve production targets and customer expectations.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment, adhering to company health and safety procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in manual machining.
- Extensive experience operating manual lathes, milling machines and boring machines.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent understanding of machining tolerances, measurement techniques and quality standards.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and continuous improvement.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous welding experience would be advantageous.
- Interest in developing welding skills and undertaking cross-training opportunities.
- Experience within repair, refurbishment, maintenance or heavy engineering environments.
- Knowledge of reverse engineering and component restoration processes.
Qualifications
- Secondary education (Plus Two) or equivalent.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering qualification preferred.
