About the Role
Zest Education is working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in South Birmingham to recruit a qualified Food Technology Teacher for a long-term supply position starting in September 2026.
This is a full teaching role, including planning and marking responsibilities. The successful candidate will deliver Food Technology across KS3 and KS4, with a strong focus on GCSE-level teaching and outcomes.
This position is expected to run on a long-term basis, with the potential to continue throughout the full academic year.
The school is well-organised and supportive, with a clear emphasis on consistency, student engagement, and practical learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons in line with the national curriculum
- Teach across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition
- Complete all planning, marking, and assessment duties
- Monitor pupil progress and support students in achieving GCSE outcomes
- Maintain safe and effective use of practical classroom environments
- Manage behaviour and establish clear classroom routines
- Work collaboratively within the Design & Technology department
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
- PGCE or equivalent UK teaching qualification
- A degree in Food Technology, Design Technology, or a related subject
- Experience teaching Food Technology at KS3 and KS4 (GCSE essential)
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, health & safety, and practical delivery
- Confident classroom presence and behaviour management skills
- Ability to commit to a long-term placement
