About the role

Job title: SEN Teaching Assistant
 
First for Education seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Sandwell, West Midlands, supporting pupils with MLD.
This is a full-time, long-term position, working with pupils who require additional support with learning, communication and personal development.
The school caters for pupils with a needs focused on MLD and associated needs and difficulties. They provide a highly supportive environment with experienced staff and access to specialist training. This is a role where you will find challenging behaviour and need thick skin, but the rewards can be incredible.
 
SEN Teaching Assistant benefits:

SEN Teaching Assistant role requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or within an SEN setting or working with
    • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, ADHD and typically challenging behaviours.
    • Strong communication, patience and resilience
    • Ability to build positive and consistent relationships with pupils
    • A proactive and adaptable approach
    • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
    • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply

 
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
    • Assist with both learning activities and personal development
    • Support pupils with communication, behaviour and engagement
    • Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
    • Work closely with teachers, SENCO and wider support staff
    • Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
