About the role
Main Purpose of the Role
To support the effective delivery of the Single Point of Access service by providing professional oversight, decision-making and supervision to ensure children and families receive timely, appropriate support and that safeguarding concerns are identified and responded to effectively. The role involves working collaboratively with partner agencies to share information, assess risk and achieve positive outcomes for children.
A Typical Day
- Reviewing and making decisions on incoming referrals and requests for support.
- Managing the SPOA inbox and ensuring responses are timely and appropriate.
- Providing advice, guidance and support to social workers and partner professionals.
- Reviewing assessments and cases to determine the appropriate level of intervention.
- Attending and contributing to Strategy Discussions, Strategy Meetings and multi-agency meetings.
- Supporting staff through supervision, case discussions and professional decision-making.
- Liaising with agencies to ensure effective information sharing and safeguarding responses.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and support the SPOA team in the delivery of a high-quality safeguarding service.
- Make informed decisions regarding initial local authority responses, allocation and intervention pathways.
- Provide supervision, guidance and professional challenge to social workers.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are assessed and managed in line with legislation, policies and procedures.
- Apply knowledge of Welsh safeguarding legislation, including Section 5 requirements.
- Promote effective partnership working with health, education, police and other agencies.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure decisions are evidence-based and child-focused.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and effective practice within the SPOA service.
