CNC Machinist (Multi‑Axis/Small Batch Manufacturing)

Cogent Staffing are recruiting for a skilled Machinist for our client based in Shipley. The ideal candidate will be experienced with Mazak, Heidenhain or Fanuc, and experienced in manufacturing small batch components.

Shifts & salary

• Rotating triple shift pattern
• Shipley, West Yorkshire
• Competitive, £35,000 – £38,000 per annum

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture and inspect engineering components to ensure all parts meet drawing requirements, standards, and specifications.
• Set and operate machine tools safely and efficiently while maintaining high machine productivity.
• Maintain work areas in line with company 6S standards and carry out daily operator maintenance tasks.
• Ensure accurate documentation is completed, maintained, and kept up to date.
• Monitor and replace cutting tools as required during production.
• Deliver thorough handovers and communicate clearly with colleagues across different shifts.
• Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to apprentices and new employees.
• Participate in non-conformance investigations using root-cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys and 8 Disciplines (5Y/8D), ensuring relevant data is well-documented.

Key Requirements

• Ideally an apprentice-trained engineer with a minimum of an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing small batch, complex components.
• Highly flexible mechanically and technically, with the ability to work confidently unsupervised.
• Prior knowledge of Mazak, Heidenhain, or Fanuc controls is a distinct advantage, though not essential.
