About the role

Intervention Tutor

Milk Education is more than a supply partner – we’re a community for educators. Join us and gain access to training, personal development opportunities, and ongoing support.

We’re currently recruiting for Intervention Tutors to work across a range of welcoming primary and secondary schools in Gateshead, starting in September. We have both long-term and flexible opportunities available, with many roles offering the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As an Intervention Tutor, you’ll work closely with pupils who require additional academic support, delivering targeted interventions to help close learning gaps, build confidence, and improve attainment. You’ll support learners on a 1:1 or small group basis, working alongside teachers to ensure every pupil reaches their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for qualified Teaching Assistants, graduates, aspiring teachers, tutors, or individuals looking to build a long-term career within Education, SEND, Educational Psychology, or Teaching.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Delivering targeted intervention sessions in English, Maths, or other curriculum areas to individuals and small groups.
  • Supporting pupils who require additional academic, emotional, or behavioural support to engage with learning.
  • Working closely with teachers to identify learning gaps and implement tailored intervention plans.
  • Adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual pupil needs and learning styles.
  • Building positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing regular feedback to teaching staff.
  • Supporting pupils in preparing for assessments and helping them achieve individual learning targets.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Experience working with children or young people within a school, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or support setting.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with confidence supporting English and/or Maths.
  • A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit different learning needs and abilities.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Teaching Assistant qualifications, tutoring experience, or relevant degrees are advantageous but not essential.
  • Graduates in Education, English, Maths, Psychology, Criminology, Health & Social Care, or similar subjects are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to provide two recent references.

Benefits

  • Competitive rates of pay with long-term and temp-to-perm opportunities available.
  • Speedy registration process & fast-track compliance – APSCo Compliance+ accredited for the highest safer recruitment standards.
  • Flexible working opportunities to suit your availability.
  • Culture-matched placements – we take the time to understand you and match you with schools that fit your values and strengths.
  • Priority Partnership school network – access to trusted schools who work with us long-term on staffing, enrichment, and community initiatives.
  • 5+ CPD courses completed before placement (including Safeguarding, SEND & Behaviour) with access to further accredited training through Milk Academy.
  • FREE PSHE lesson plans and resources, designed by real teachers.
  • FREE Educator Wellbeing resources and access to our community hub – because we believe supported staff stay longer and make a bigger impact.
  • School Preparation Pack with handover notes and insightful school guides – so you walk in ready on day one.
  • 24/7 support from your dedicated consultant, ensuring your journey is personal from registration through to placement.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
