About the role

Introduction

Our client, a very busy, RCVS-accredited first opinion and referral practice, is seeking a dedicated Part Time OOH/Hospital RVN to join their team. This established practice boasts a large team of veterinary professionals, including vets, RVNs, and ACAs, with a dedicated out-of-hours team at their main hospital and eight branches in the surrounding area. They pride themselves on an amazing nursing staff, comprising ACAs, SVNs, RVNs, and Diploma/Certificate holding RVNs. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive and dynamic environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will join the team as a part-time RVN, primarily assisting with out-of-hours and hospital caseloads. There is also the opportunity to pick up additional holiday cover shifts if desired. This role will involve a combination of OOH shifts and rotational hospital shifts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional inpatient care.

  • Handling out-of-hours calls.

  • Assisting in theatre for both first opinion and referral cases.

  • Conducting consultations.

  • Triage of patients.

  • Maintaining high levels of infection control.

The role is for 32 hours per week, following a structured pattern:

Week 1:

  • Monday: 8:30 am - 6:30 pm

  • Thursday: 8:00 pm - 8:00 am

  • Friday: 8:00 pm - 8:00 am

Week 2:

  • Friday: 8:30 am - 6:30 pm

  • Saturday: 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm

  • Sunday: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm

Bank holidays are a minimum of one per year and are shared on a rota basis.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess excellent inpatient care skills, good anaesthesia experience and knowledge, and a passion for providing emergency care to a varied caseload. Strong communication skills and a willingness to mentor Student Veterinary Nurses are essential for this role.
