About the role
Job summary
Working in a team with our Head of Disposals North West and other Disposal Team members, the, the Development Manager will play a critical role in providing commercial and technical expertise to ensure publicly owned land is de-risked appropriately and taken to market in a way that maximises the potential for early delivery of homes and ensures a good return for Homes England whilst meeting wider policy objectives.
In addition, as part of our North West Regional Delivery Directorate, you will also have the opportunity to support place-based partnerships - we work with local leaders and industry to turn national housing ambition into local housing delivery by bringing together land, funding and partners.
You will be joining our friendly and experienced North West Disposals team, who are committed to making positive change in accelerating housing delivery by providing input into acquisition strategies; commercially testing the deliverability of planning strategies; engaging with development partners; disposing of sites; and monitoring the delivery of new homes on site.

The role will support the delivery of key strategic priorities around design, pace and modern methods of construction along with working with a range of developer partners, small to large. There are some exciting and ambitious projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst bringing innovative solutions to the disposal of public sector land.
Person specification
Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders, you will be used to multitasking and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.
You will be comfortable supporting the disposal team, and wider organisation, with complex land issues. You will use your technical, professional and commercial acumen, skills and experience of working in the local market to accelerate the delivery of new homes through a number of mechanisms.
Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a disposal team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, friendly and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.
You will be able to work in an agile way supporting the mission-based approach of Homes England. This will involve working in a collaborative and inclusive way across multifunctional teams.
