About the role
Brook Street Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-established Belfast city centre client who is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Accounting Technician to join their growing team.
This opportunity would suit a qualified Accounting Technician, an experienced Bookkeeper, or a strong accounts administrator with substantial bookkeeping and financial record-keeping experience. The client is open to considering candidates on either a full-time or part-time basis, with remuneration tailored to experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients using cloud-based accounting software, primarily QuickBooks.
- Process invoices, bank transactions and other bookkeeping entries efficiently and accurately.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and ensure client records are maintained to a high standard.
- Process financial information received through third-party software, primarily Dext.
- Manage client communications, including requesting monthly or quarterly records and responding to bookkeeping queries.
- Liaise with an off-site bookkeeping team to ensure work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Prepare VAT returns in compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end accounts for companies, sole traders and partnerships.
- Support the wider team in meeting client deadlines and departmental objectives.
- Provide general administrative support as required.
- Adapt to and utilise new systems, processes and applications as the business evolves.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration or a similar finance support role.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks or similar cloud accounting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy when processing financial information.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative with minimal supervision.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
Desirable Criteria
- A minimum of three years' relevant experience within an accountancy practice, bookkeeping bureau or similar environment.
- Experience using Dext, AutoEntry, Xero, Sage or other cloud-based accounting systems.
- Qualified Accounting Technician or qualified Bookkeeper.
- Experience assisting with management accounts and year-end accounts preparation.
- Experience managing workflow across multiple clients or a client portfolio.
