About the role
Location: Peterborough (Fully Office Based)
Pay Rate: £12.86 per hour, increasing to £13.25 after 12 weeks
Working Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (37 hours per week)
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to gain experience within the Public Sector? We are currently recruiting on behalf of HMCTS Peterborough for a Full Time Temporary Admin Officer to join their busy team.
As an Admin Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the court, ensuring cases progress efficiently through the justice system while providing excellent administrative support. This is a temporary position with a strong possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities
- Progress cases through the Court/Tribunal system and provide support across HMCTS functions.
- Input and update information accurately on internal systems.
- Handle inbound and outbound telephone calls, responding to enquiries from court users, legal professionals and the judiciary.
- Prepare court papers and case files.
- Create, update and maintain accurate records.
- Manage email correspondence and general administrative duties.
- Book, prepare and organise meeting rooms.
- Resolve queries by following HMCTS guidance and procedures.
Court Ushering Duties (Approximately 10% of the role)
As part of this position, you will also support the court as an Usher when required. Duties include:
- Preparing courtrooms before hearings.
- Greeting and directing court users, witnesses, legal representatives and members of the public.
- Calling cases into the courtroom and ensuring hearings run smoothly.
- Escorting parties to the correct courtrooms or waiting areas.
- Providing general assistance to judges and court staff during hearings.
- Ensuring courtrooms remain organised, secure and ready for use.
Requirements
- Previous administration experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, with confidence managing email inboxes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong IT and computer skills.
- Ability to manage a high workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Adaptable with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
