About the role

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join the Logistics Team at RNAS Culdrose as a Motor Transport Driver.

Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose delivers the UK’s two highest defence priorities: assuring the nuclear deterrent and protection of the nation’s aircraft carriers. It is an operational Air Station with a workforce of 3000 personnel that are all directly or indirectly involved in generating or supporting the Naval Air Squadrons and their personnel.

The Motor Transport (MT) Driver is a critical role within the MT team at Culdrose, responsible for driving specialist airfield support vehicles, emergency response vehicles and passenger and freight vehicles. This role is essential to enabling operational flying activity and the movement of freight and personnel in direct support of defence tasking. The successful applicant will need to be flexible and able to undertake planned or short notice journeys which could include overnight stays away from the unit. Whilst the MOD supports hybrid working, candidates should be aware due to the nature of this role it is unsuitable for home working. The position is advertised at 37 hours per week as part of a shift pattern with the opportunity for overtime, and on call allowance during weekends and leave periods. This role attracts a shift working allowance of 11.5%.

Job description

The MT Driver is part of the Motor Transport Team and sits within the Logistics Department of RNAS CULDROSE. The post is responsible for the key areas:

  • Driving all categories of vehicle including Heavy, Large, and Medium Goods Vehicles. This will include articulated lorries, 40ft Curtain, Flatbed and Lowloader Trailers.
  • Driving specialist vehicles including Forklift, and Airfield Sweepers. Driving Ambulances under blue light conditions.
  • The carriage of Dangerous Goods above and below the threshold.
  • Driving passenger carrying Vans, Minibuses and large Personnel Carrying Vehicles.
  • Planning delivery schedules and routes with the Operations Manager.
  • Cleaning and Preparation of Vehicles.

Additional Information:

This role is based at RNAS Culdrose, a key operational air station supporting the Royal Navy’s critical missions. The successful candidate will play a vital role providing logistical support, contributing to the overall success of its operations.

We’ll provide you with all the training you need to succeed, including but not limited to:

  • Civil Service Mandatory Training
  • ADR Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road
  • Blue Light Emergency Response Driving Level 1
  • Mechanical Handling Equipment (Forklift).

The successful applicant will need to be prepared to undertake a DBS check and any medical assessments required.
