Summary
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to join a leading engineering consultancy, focusing on retrofit projects in mission-critical data centre environments. Based in London with hybrid working options, this permanent role offers the opportunity to deliver innovative engineering solutions on major European projects. €75,000 – €85,000 per year
Location and Working Pattern
London, hybrid working with flexible arrangements available. Occasional European travel may be required.
Client Overview
Our client is a progressive engineering consultancy known for delivering cutting-edge solutions for data centre projects across Europe. They champion collaboration, sustainability, and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services upgrades in live data centre environments, including capacity increases, M&E upgrades, and lifecycle replacements.
Develop and manage retrofit-specific strategies, including redundancy planning, outage strategies, and resilience design.
Prepare and review design documents, drawings, and technical reports.
Manage project scope, budget, and contracts, mitigating risks and live-environment constraints.
Liaise with clients and vendors to ensure seamless delivery with minimal disruption.
Drive quality assurance and governance across all live projects.
Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
Support business development through proposals and technical strategies across EMEA.
Must-have Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 8 years’ experience in building services engineering with at least 3 years in data centre or mission-critical projects.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
Proven record delivering multi-million-euro mechanical projects from concept to completion.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, plus strong understanding of data centre mechanical systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water plant, etc.).
Knowledge of CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, EN standards, and EU Energy Efficiency Directive requirements.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience with mechanical analysis tools such as IES or HAP.
Knowledge of LEED/BREEAM standards and ESG considerations.
Familiarity with live-environment commissioning and resilience planning.
