About the role

Year 1 Class Teacher – Primary School – Nottingham

Milk Education are recruiting for a passionate, nurturing, and dedicated Year 1 Class Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Nottingham on a long-term basis, starting in September 2026.

You’ll be joining a supportive school community that is committed to providing children with a positive transition into Key Stage 1 and helping every pupil develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced KS1 Teacher or ECT who enjoys working with younger pupils and is passionate about creating engaging and purposeful learning experiences.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum, with a strong focus on phonics, early reading, writing, and mathematics, while creating a positive and stimulating classroom environment.

What You’ll Be Doing in the Role:

  • Teaching a Year 1 class and delivering high-quality lessons across the curriculum
  • Planning and delivering engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences
  • Supporting pupils with the transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1
  • Delivering effective phonics and early reading sessions
  • Supporting the development of early writing and mathematics skills
  • Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all pupils
  • Monitoring, assessing, and tracking pupil progress
  • Using assessment information to inform future planning and teaching
  • Supporting pupils with SEND and adapting learning to meet individual needs
  • Creating a positive, safe, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team
  • Supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Ensuring safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed consistently

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Recent and relevant experience teaching within a primary school setting
  • Experience teaching KS1 is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum
  • Good understanding of phonics and early reading
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Experience planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • ECTs are welcome to apply
