About the role
Senior Associate / Partner – Investigations – Colchester
Location: Colchester
Salary: Competitive + bonus
Synergy Personnel Services is working in partnership with a Top 50 UK law firm to appoint a Senior Associate or Partner into its specialist Investigations team based in Colchester.
This is a unique opportunity for a lawyer who thrives on complex, sensitive and high-stakes matters, and is looking to move into (or further develop within) a highly specialised and increasingly in-demand area of practice.
The Opportunity
Our client’s Investigations team operates at the forefront of workplace, regulatory and corporate investigations, advising a broad client base ranging from SMEs through to large international organisations.
The team is regularly instructed on highly sensitive internal investigations, often involving reputational, regulatory and legal risk. Their approach combines technical legal expertise with strong interpersonal and investigative skills, ensuring matters are handled thoroughly and appropriately.
With increasing demand driven by regulatory scrutiny, ESG considerations and workplace culture issues, the firm is investing in senior talent to strengthen its offering in the South East.
The Role
You will work on a wide range of complex investigations, often involving multiple stakeholders and requiring a careful, strategic approach.
Key areas of work include:
- Workplace investigations (including bullying, harassment and discrimination)
- Whistleblowing and internal compliance investigations
- Regulatory and governance-related matters
- Fraud, misconduct and financial irregularity investigations
- Data protection and policy breach issues
- Advising on investigation processes, reporting and outcomes
The role often involves engaging directly with senior stakeholders, conducting interviews, analysing evidence and producing clear, defensible findings.
You will also work closely with colleagues across Employment, Regulatory and Dispute Resolution teams, reflecting the cross-disciplinary nature of investigations work.
A Role with Real Impact
This is not traditional black-letter law.
Instead, the role offers:
- Exposure to high-profile and sensitive matters where judgement is critical
- The opportunity to act as an independent investigator and trusted adviser
- Work that directly impacts organisational culture, governance and risk
- A blend of legal, strategic and interpersonal skillsets
At Partner level, there is scope to lead investigations mandates, develop client relationships and build a recognised regional offering.
About You
We are interested in speaking with:
- Lawyers at Senior Associate or Partner level with experience in:
- Investigations
- Employment (with investigations exposure)
- Regulatory or white-collar matters
- Strong interviewing, analytical and report-writing skills
- The ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and confidence
- A commercial and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Individuals interested in developing a specialist, reputation-led practice
Experience conducting or leading investigations is highly desirable, though those with adjacent experience and a genuine interest in the area will also be considered.
The Firm
This is a Top 50 UK professional services business with over 10,000 clients and a nationwide presence across 30+ locations, offering a full-service legal platform.
The firm is known for its:
- Modern, non-traditional operating model
- Reduced hierarchy and greater autonomy for senior lawyers
- Strong emphasis on commercial, client-focused advice
- Clear and transparent progression to equity
Why This Role?
- Opportunity to specialise in a growing and high-demand area of law
- Exposure to complex, sensitive and often high-profile matters
- Strong pipeline of work from national clients
- Collaborative, cross-practice environment
- Genuine platform to build a distinct personal profile in investigations work
